Last night at while shopping at Rosauers (where the world's problems =
are often solved). I ran into someone who had an idea about the pool =
that I think might have some merit and even some council support.=20
=20
Instead of the design proposed, a leisure pool with attached 25M lap =
pool. It was suggested that perhaps the answer is to separate the two =
pools, build the leisure outdoor pool, and a separate 50M lap pool that =
is designed to be covered at a later date.
=20
The person I was talking with said that it could cost about the same as =
the proposed project. They also said that they think the council might =
support this second idea.=20
=20
If this alternate proposal could be considered then the School District =
might come to the table to help finance and utilize the pool. Those of =
us who want a 50M pool would be happy, and those who want a covered =
facility will be happy down the road, and our kids would still have a =
Summer pool in the sunshine. Is this not a Win-Win?
=20
As others have said this is an opportunity to plan for the future. =
Gormley lasted 60+ years, and if we don't at least look at some other =
options it may well be 60 years before we talk about this again.
=20
If in fact there is council support for this alternate idea now is the =
time for the voters to express themselves to the council. Just because =
they passed a resolution approving the Pool Committee's recommendation =
doesn't mean the Council can't tweak the proposal to satisfy enough =
people to vote yes. =20
=20
On a the same subject I would like to thank all the visionaries who have =
kept this discussion alive. I think maybe the 2020 Listserver has made =
a difference in this issue.
