I would like to add one note to Janet's account of our prison tour. It
seemed to me that what the staff at Orofino are doing in rehabilitation is
admirable and they are doing it on the slimmest of shoe strings. Less
punitive sentencing is an answer and youth outreach is an answer, but for
those people who are now in prison, rehabilitation is the answer. Anything
we can do to send them out as functioning citizens will make a major impact
on crime. I found the staff at the prison professional and caring and they
need to be commended.
