The Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) is a proactive
grassroots organization with over 700 members working on regional
conservation and environmental issues. Since 1986, we have worked to
increase citizen involvement in decisions that affect the regional
environment. For this purpose, we have established successes in four
program areas: Community Food Systems, Watersheds, Transportation, and
Environmental Education. Initiated in January of 1997, Idaho Smart Growth
is the major project in the transportation program. The Idaho Smart Growth
Project Co-Coordinator is responsible for working with other project staff
and volunteers in developing and carrying out PCEI's statewide
transportation and growth management education goals and objectives by
working with the project's advisory committee to develop and implement a
project work plan.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities include working with other staff and
volunteers to achieve the following project goals:
* Increase public awareness of and participation in the statewide Smart
Growth coalition in Idaho.
* Develop the fundraising capacity and organizational structure necessary
to establish Idaho Smart Growth as a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization.
* Serve as a public spokesperson for Idaho Smart Growth, effectively
communicating the mission, goals, and activities of the Idaho Smart Growth
project and the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute.
* Provide skills training, networking services, information resources, and
other appropriate forms of assistance to individuals and grass roots
organizations around Idaho to increase their capacity to effectively
respond to growth and transportation issues in their communities.
Experience: The Idaho Smart Growth Project Co-Coordinator will have
demonstrated knowledge and experience in organizational development and
community organizing. Preference will be given to individuals that have
direct experience in the development and management of a non-profit
organization. The Co-Coordinator will have good communication skills, be
dynamic, energetic and team oriented. She/he will be experienced at
interacting with all forms of media and with networking among diverse
groups of people.
Compensation: Half-time position starting at $10-12/hour, depending on
experience.
