A survey in the Treasure Valley, using 618 site visits, a telephone poll
of 1200 businesses, and in depth interviews with businesses and post
secondary institutions found the following needed workplace skills:
"Interpersonal skills, including empathy, clear communication,
adaptability, handling conflict, friendliness, accepting and giving
criticism, and customer relations are critical in today's competitive
and rapidly changing business environment.
Today's workplace requires broad basic skills such as reading, writing,
mathematics, speaking, listening, problem solving and technology skills,
upon which to build other high level skills.
A strong work ethic and strong work habits, including reliability,
trustworthiness, persistence, effective time management, work quality
and appropriate organization, are essential for workplace success..."
