Visionaries:

In one of my last advisories, I noted that JFAX was not going to
fund $2 million to get the $7.7 million in federal funds for the
immunizaiton and health care programs for children from low income
families (and uninsured). Idaho already ranks 50th in the country
(just behind Arkansas) in terms of the lowest (50.5%) of children
below 4 years of age to have all of their vacinations.

Once the word got out considerable pressure from the legislature
and citizens has turned the tide. I just talked to Rep. Bob Geddes,Co-
Chair of JFAX, and he said that everything will be worked out
satisfactorily in the Monday budget hearings with Health and Welfare.
He said there had been a lack of communications on the issue. Well,
Bob is a man of his word and so this problem so important to
the youth of the state appears to have been taken care of for
this year.
