Vision 2020 and Smart Growth

As one of three members on the 2020 steering committee (with Bill L and
Susan P), I'll reposnd to the issue Sam S raised about whether a vote had
been taken on takings ...

Last Fall, Jon Barret from Idaho Smart Growth visited Moscow to talk about
his organization and its goals (which are, generally, what Bill said in his
2/7 e-mail). We announced Jon's visit, and invited people to come.
Subsequently, the 2020 steering committee decided to collectively share a
position on Smarth Growth's advisory committee, as the organization was
eager to have representatives from citizen involvement/planning groups
around the state and it was a good chance for us to learn what other
communities are doing about growth issues. We then posted info about our
work with the SG adv. comm. on the list serve.

Smarth Growth is now focusing its work on the proposed takings legislation,
as Bill noted. That doesn't mean 2020 is focusing on it, has voted on it,
or anything other than encouraging discussion through the list serve.
Perhaps Bill's wording was confusing on this subject?

2020 is a most informal organization that would be hard pressed to take a
vote on anything (altho we're pretty good at focusing....) We sponsor the
list serve, have a steering committee (which welcomes others to join) w/
monthly meetings, and function as an umbrella (not exactly the right word)
for community events that encourage citizen planning and participation.
Susan's leadership role in the upcoming retreat is a perfect example.

Hope that helps on our "position."
