Many weeks ago I posted a message reminiscing about my experience in a small
Minnesota town that banded together, volunteered money and labor, and built
a swimming pool. As part of that message I believe I raised the issue of
doing what we could in Moscow to seek donations for the Moscow pool project.
I still think this is a sound idea and am waiting for someone to explain to
me why it wouldn't be. Couldn't, for example, local contractors donate
labor, expertise and so forth and be able to write it off on their taxes,
assuming that a non-profit corporation was formed to pursue the project?
Obviously we couldn't raise all the money needed through donations, but I
remain convinced that a good deal could be accomplished by soliciting
donations of all kinds.
