What's Good for the Goose?

I can relate to what Susan Palmer is saying about sidewalk snow removal. I
find myself in a similar situation. If it's snowing when my wife and I
leave for work, by the time we get home a couple hundred (or more) Junior
High kids have packed our sidewalk solid. And with conditions such as the
ones forecast (colder temperatures) it would take an ice pick and jack
hammer to get the mass of frozen stuff off our walkway.

So...am I a lawbreaker?

We do the best we can, spreading rock salt and sand (or unused cat litter)
on the surface so the kids (and cats) don't slip. Beyond that, it's a tough
situation.

On the other hand, is there no ordinance requiring the city to remove snow
from streets and bike paths? We're all too familiar with "Moscow - Snow Berm
Capital of the World" and I've always thought the city has done a borderline
job on snow removal generally speaking, regardless of "Berm City". (The
state doesn't do a very good job on the highways either for that matter.)

Isn't what's good for the geese good for the ganders?
