Yes, it's a different era, but I fondly recall my youth in the small town of
Chatfield, Minnesota and how proud I was of my father, who spearheaded a
fundraising effort to raise money for a swimming pool in that little farm town.

I can't recall how long it took to raise the bucks or how many events were
staged and groups recruited to help, but it happened. Enough was raised to
build that pool (a nice, outdoor pool built with alot of volunteer labor,
including my brothers and myself and a gritty foreman named Norm) and it was
really cool to pass through there with my young daughter 9-10 years ago and
see that the pool was still there, well cared for and well used...a monument
to how a small community can pull together to do something positive for
young and old alike.

Yes, it's a different era, but maybe there is some of that spirit in local
folks here. Seems worth checking out.
