Thanks, Priscilla, for calling our attention to Stephen Lyons' article in
Northern Lights. I haven't read it yet, but I thought visionaries might be
interested in an article with apparently similar themes in the latest issue
(Sept./Oct.) of Sierra.
It's called "The Journey Home" by Stephanie Mills, and she describes changes
in Kasson Township, Leelanu County, Mich. (near Traverse City).
Referring to the challenges of urban migration to a rural area, she writes:
"Somewhere between bear habitat and brokerage houses, between unbroken woods
and suburbia, we should be able to conjure a reinhabitory vision here, a
design for living that would suffice for hundreds of years...."
Is there a middle ground for the Palouse between wheat fields and WalMarts?
