Hello. This looks like a great project and I would love to be involved in
developing the grant and coordinating the town hall meeting! I am
currently scheduled to be on vacation next week, if that changes, I will
definitely be at the meeting, if it does not, I will see if my colleague,
Peggy Adams, will be able to attend. I would like to see the development
of a concurrent workshop on local agriculture (both production/marketing
and consumption) and would be very willing to develop a local committee to
plan and conduct the workshop.
Sincerely,

>>
>> Visionaries,
>>
>> Several weeks ago, Lori Keenan (Director, Latah County Library District)
>> posted a notice about the Idaho Humanities Council's call for grant
>> applications that "explore issues of community at the end of the
>> millennium."
>>
>> Both Jack Hill, on behalf of the school district, and I, on behalf of
>> Moscow Vision 2020, responded and met with Lori. The brainchild of that
>> meeting was to propose an IHC grant-supported "Town Retreat" in June of
>> next year.
>>
>> Although we'd like the entire town to participate, we especially hope
>that
>> all agencies, organizations, and individuals concerned with aspects of
>> "community" will participate in the planning and realization of this
>> event. That includes you.
>>
>> We tentatively envision inviting a keynote speaker such as Missoula Mayor
>> Dan Kemmmis, orchestrating concurrent workshops in areas such as
>> "schools," "growth," "facilities," "environmental concerns," "the
>> arts," and "the economy." The retreat would take place in the high
>school,
>> nearby churches, the Community Center, the library, and so forth. These
>> are just a few of the ideas.
>>
>> The day-long retreat would conclude with a festive celebration in East
>> City Park. We even envision that stores and offices might post signs in
>> their doors that read "Closed...gone to the Town Retreat!"
>>
>> As Lori wrote to me, "A retreat is a place where you go in order to get
>in
>> touch with energies you know are there, but they need to be
>> liberated...It's hard work and deserves a celebration at the end...A
>> barbecue and music/dancing in the Park in the evening."
>>
>> So, GET OUT YOUR CALENDARS. To help us generate and sharpen our ideas for
>
>> the grant proposal, join us for a no-host planning breakfast at the MAIN
>> STREET DELI, on THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 8:00 a.m.
>>
>> We'd like to see representatives from the League of Women Voters, the
>> newspaper, school board, city and county offices, the Historical Society,
>> council and commission members, churches, non-profits, law enforcement,
>> economic development and business groups, senior citizens, citizen's
>> groups, Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, state representatives, the arts
>community,
>> Latah Sanitation, the university, library, and more!
>>
>> If I've left anyone out...come to the planning breakfast and let me know
>> about it. I hope to see you there.
>>
>> Cordially,
>> Susan Palmer
