Sam,
Getting `back on track' so to speak, I would like to see Bill Gates
invest in all of these small rail lines (including the one that runs
through Princeton), convert to electric/solar/whatever-works technology
and run several small, high-speed one or two car commuter trains between
all the outlying bergs and Moscow. Picture a University of Idaho train
station; since Bill never misses an opportunity, he would undoubtedly
have the Rent-a-bike ( or Rent-a-golf cart) concession on site. At the
Tidymans or Rosauer's stops, a shopping cart would be waiting as you
de-trained.
Failing that, I would like to see the state of Idaho be a leader in this
area. A one-time $20 tax on every citizen (seed money), volunteer labor,
community service labor, corporate engineer volunteers, ad agency
volunteers ("We need a few good teens to lay track" ...."Only the strong
survive.. laying track"). Idaho needs a new image. A state commuter rail
system, built and run by citizens, would be a refreshing change of
national focus. Being the independent cusses that we are, we would refuse
federal $$$- at least for the first year or two.
About as possible as `green eggs'? Add cinnamon to your scrambled eggs
this morning.
(Note to critics: don't focus on acquisition of financing; run a
state-wide contest for business/finance majors- see what ideas they can
come up with. Or sell each mile of track to corporate
sponsors.......Vision2020 is about innovative ideas.......let's hear
some)
