Project Independence by Common Cause is the largest grassroots
initiative ever launched to activate citizens to fight for passage of
effective and bipartisan campaign finance reform.
Citizens of all 50 states are asked to sign a "Declaration of
Independence" urging congress to act on comprehensive campaign reform
legislation. Common Cause and Campaign for America are jointly
organizing the petition gathering efforts around the country. They
support the McCain-Feingold Bill as a start.
YOU CAN SIGN THIS PETITION THROUGH THE INTERNET!
See the message below to learn how to do it. Urge your friends who
have access to the Inernet to sign also. Nealy two million
signatures by July 4! The Comon Cause message follows:
Project Independence is picking up steam as we work to collect 1.776
million citizen signatures demanding comprehensive campaign finance reform.
But we've got a big job ahead of us. As a member of the Email Alert
Network, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on this historic
project.
As you know, we hope to harness the power of the internet to collect a
great deal of signatures for Project Independence via the Internet -- by
employing both our online petition form
http://www.projectindependence.com
and our chain email program.
As an incentive, we've added a free Project Independence screensaver that
people can download after signing the petition or submitting additional
names. Also, we have added a "Wall of Champions" at
http://www.commoncause.org/cgi-bin/ccause/wall_champs.pl.
that recognizes the citizen activists who have generated the most online
signatures. Check here to see who some of our best "online organizers" are.
I hope you'll take some time in the next week or two to contact your email
list of friends and colleagues and tell them about Project Independence and
how they can sign the petition online. If you need
an email version of the petition with the chain email form, send a blank
message to petition@commoncause.org.
If you have a personal web site, or are affiliated with an organization
that has a web site, we have added instructions to webmasters and an icon
to link to the Project Independence Petition Page at
http://www.commoncause.org/get_involved/projind_instructions.htm.
Please let us know if you'll be able to provide a link to Project
Independence.
If you have any thoughts or ideas about how we can expand our online
organizing activities, or would like a hard copy of the Project
Independence Action Kit, please write to us at grassroots@commoncause.org.
Thanks again.
