Innovative building now open

A Moscow building made entirely of used and recycled materials opened last
Saturday at Stookey's Feed and Garden (211 W. D St.) and is well worth a
visit.

Kurt Rathmann, the UI architecture student who built it, has shown a lot of
ingenuity, using salvaged greenhouse glass for windows, bales of straw
for one wall and permanent wall-form blocks from wood waste for another.

This isn't some amateur's shack but a fully inspected and approved building
that contains enough innovations to keep you marveling for quite awhile.

Many of the most interesting facts aren't apparent at first glance, and
it's a big help to have Kurt point them out. He plans to put up signs
explaining the various features, and that should be a big help.

The building is going to be used as a plant nursery. It's open for
visitors business hours Monday to Friday. If you want to ask Kurt more
about the building you can reach him at 883-1446 or
rath9362@uidaho.edu..
