The Latah County Democratic Caucus will be this evening (March 5) at
8 p.m. at the Moscow Community Center. The purpose of this caucus is
to choose delegates to the Idaho democratic convention this summer.
That convention will choose delegates to the Democratic National Convention
in August.

Since Bill Clinton is virtually unopposed for the presidential nomination,
there's not much of a contest. However, the state Democratic Central
Committee has received information that some conservative special-interest
groups might attend county caucuses in an attempt to choose delegates
favorable to their positions. So it's important for rank-and-file
Democrats to attend to be sure that doesn't happen.

Idaho doesn't have party registration, so anyone can declare him/herself
a Democrat at the beginning of the caucus. As I recall from '92, I
think there is a statement that participants must sign declaring themselves
to be Democrats.

For more information, call county chair Shirley Ringo.
