I call the attention of readers of list to a letter to the editor on page
8A of the Feb. 1 Daily News by Katrina Berman. She provicdes an excellent
history of the property at S. Main between Taylor and Lauder, the covenants
placed on the property by the City Council when the zone was changed, and
issues associated with a developer's request to have the covenants lifted
so he can build a fast food/car wash/convenience store/gas station there.

It's true that Katrina has a bias -- she lives across the street from the
affected property. But she raises legitimate concerns with citywide
implications about the council's ability to regulate undesirable land uses.

If you share katrina's sentiments, as I do, I urge you to attend the public
hearing before the City Council at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. If you can't
attend, send a short letter to City Hall before 5 p.m. MOnday, or an e-mail
message to Dale Pernula (dpernula@ moscow.com) and ask that it be read
aloud into the public record.

If you have questions, call Katrina or Suvia Judd at 882-4785.
