Ron Rankin, president of the Idaho Property Owners Association, will
explain an initiative to limit property taxes in Idaho on Tuesday, Jan.
30, at 7:30 p.m. at the Moscow Community Center. The meeting is
sponsored by Latah Citizens for Fair Taxation.
Rankin's group is circulating a petition to place an initiative to
limit property taxes to 1% of the taxable value of all property after
all exemptions (such as the 50-50 homeowners' exemption) are taken.
It would also remove all M&O funding of public schools from the property
tax.
Rankin is also willing to speak about attempts in the Legislature to
make it harder to get initiatives on the statewide ballot, and about
tax-increment financing for urban renewal, as it has been applied in
Kootenai County.
Anyone with an interest in or questions about any of these areas is
invited to attend.
