* The city election next month will have a $500,000 bond issue for
open space, to purchase land conservation easements on "cornerstone"
properties identified in the city open space plan. Imagine a city that
actually has an open space plan!
* Missoula has received approval for $30 million worth of bicycle and
pedestrian projects under CMAQ -- Congestion Mitigation Air Quality.
(This is the same program that provided $200,000 for Moscow's as-yet
unbuilt Sixth STreet path before the Idaho Transportation Board decided
that only cities with air-pollution problems like Boise could use this
money.) Part of Missoula's strategy is to build new sidewalks in areas
where it's unsafe to walk.
Does anyone have any contacts in Missoula (other than the mayor) who
could provide details on either of these initiatives?
