I offered to post the following for Tom Hudson, who facilitated the session
last Thursday. --Priscilla S.

During the last session of the Tale of Two Cities program, participants
were asked to identify desirable elements of a vision for our two cities'
future. These elements were then ranked by the group through a voting
process. A complete record of the process and results is available from
Tom Hudson, and here are the top six elements:

1. Bicycle and pedestrian friendly community
2. Keep distinct borders between city and countryside
3. Responsive and interested local government
4. Reach out to Junior and Senior High students
5. Emphasis on diverse primary education
6. Well protected environment for our health and well-being

Tom asked everyone at the meeting to consider how we might act to attain
these top six elements. In a breakout session, participants began to
address the question systematically. Among issues they defined were:
people and organizations having a stake in the element; major challenges;
and action steps. Their input will be used in two ways.

First, this input will guide further community-based planning. On
Thursday, October 12, we will meet again to take up where we left off. Our
goal is to identify and implement (or get others to implement) actions
which will lead toward the defined vision. If you would like to help us
move forward - not just *talk about* - a more desirable future, please join
us. Bring a friend. We will have facilitators at two meeting locations
for your convenience. Meetings will run from 7:30-9:30 p.m. In Moscow,
we'll meet at the Community Center (old Post Office) and in Pullman, at the
Youth Center in City Hall. Discussions will focus on issues most pertinent
to the host community.

Second, we will forward participants' input to all organizations and
agencies identified as stakeholders during the last meeting. This will
give the entities an idea of your concerns and goals. Heightened awareness
is more likely to result in action.

Additional action will depend on the interests of those who come together
on October 12th. Please join us. Our towns need champions like you to
build community that is strong and lasting.

--Tom Hudson

P.S. If you have time, please try to bring a small, light refreshment to
the meeting.
