For those of you who don't take the Lewiston Tribune, or haven't heard from
other sources, Sherman Clyde was re-elected to his position on the North
Latah Highway District Commission on Tuesday. He received 923 votes to 362
for challenger Fritz Knorr. The total of 1,285 votes was the most ever cast
in a highway district election in the county.

The breakdown by polling place was:
Moscow: Clyde 479, Knorr 317
Potlatch: Clyde 181, Knorr 12
Troy: Clyde 154, Knorr 23
Deary: Clyde 97, Knorr 9
Farmington: Clyde 12, Knorr 1 (I bet Fritz's one vote came from Mrs. Bud
Wagner, whose home was the polling place.

I would be curious to hear responses to the results from 2020 subscribers.
I have several theories about what happened, including farmers turning out
to support one of their own and suspicion of Fritz's PCEI connection from
people opposed to the sole-source aquifer designation. I expected Clyde to
run strong in the outlying towns, simply because his family has been in
Latah County for 100 years, but I really thought Fritz would get more votes
in Moscow.

Any other explanations? Progressive voters off floating rivers or backpacking
in the wilderness?
