I don't think that any of the articles said that the population
wasn't growing. Both WSU and UI have had student growth and an
exodus from the dorms. My observation, however, is that the new
houses are primarily being built and occupied by Moscow residents,
not hordes of retirees streaming in from California. You can cruise
the Moser addition or Moscow Mt. and check off familiar names. My
guess is that the older houses are being occupied by younger
families moving out of apartments, and that the apartments are
absorbing the newcomers (mostly students). It would be interesting
to have some objective data, though.
