i'd like to add to the list of long term goals per pam's request. i hate to
structure a goal in a negative fashion, but the visceral impact of this one
is such that it seems necessary to make an exception.
there is a new development of duplex townhouses under construction in
pullman that is an outstanding illustration of everything we DON'T need to
see in any future developments. it exhibits all the characteristics we
should strive to avoid.
the sad thing is that it is being constructed by a builder whose work i
honestly have admired as being among the best on the palouse to date.
it is hard to describe, so a visit to the site might be useful and informative.
the new townhomes are on the north edge of military hill on clay court.
(clay court is a new cul de sac which intersects with the new western
extension of terre view.)
the row of duplexes is complete on the north side of clay court, and the
plan is to construct a mirror image on the south side.
all that is visible from the street is a continuous bank of 4 car garages,
topped by large, blank shed roofs. clay court, in its final configuration
will have the charm and character of an alley at a "u-store-it" mini
warehouse.
so my goal for pam would be to avoid the further creation of such blank,
sterile streetscapes/neighborhoods and "lack-of" communities.
