Lisa mentioned Duncan Palmatier as a possible appointee to the Moscow P&Z. Und
er current city ordinance, which requires 5 years of residency in the city imme
diately preceding the appointment, Duncan would not be eligible. (The same req
uirement keeps people like Tom Hudson from being appointed.)
Joel has pointed out that Idaho Code now requires only two years residency for
P&Zs, and Moscow ordinance should be changed to reflect that. If the change we
re approved by the City Council, Duncan (who was been here since Aug. of '92) w
ould be eligible. We need to lobby our council members to bring Moscow's requi
rement into consistency with state law. As it is, we are shutting out a valuab
le resource -- people who have recently moved to our community.
Nels Reese is interested in one of the vacancies... anyone who knows him should
encourage him to apply. Other possible applicants that I know of are Dorothy
Thomas and Jeanne Leffingwell. The more names the mayor has to choose from the
greater chance of getting some good new members. KENTON
